Which one costs less?

The two-year deals are close: ExpressVPN bills $89.32 for the first 28 months, which works out to $3.19 a month, while NordVPN bills $94.23 for the first 27 months, or $3.49 a month.

The renewal is where the gap opens. Both advertised rates are intro prices. After the first term, ExpressVPN Basic autorenews at $99.95 a year — about $8.33 a month. NordVPN Basic renews at $139.08 a year — about $11.59 a month. That difference repeats every year you stay.

Both companies upsell bundles. NordVPN Complete is $19.99 a month and Prime is $29.99, adding antivirus, a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage, dark-web monitoring, and — on Prime — identity-theft insurance. ExpressVPN Advanced is $16.99 a month and Express Pro is $22.99, mixing in a password manager, email relay, identity tools, eSIM data, and an AI chatbot; those tiers renew at $119.95 and $199.95 a year. If you only want the VPN, stay on Basic with either provider.

Which one is more private?

Closer than either marketing team admits. Both sit outside US and EU jurisdiction: NordVPN operates out of Panama, which it says has no data-retention laws that would apply to VPN providers, and ExpressVPN is registered in the British Virgin Islands, which it calls a jurisdiction with strong privacy laws. Both run their VPN servers entirely in RAM — NordVPN across its fleet by design, ExpressVPN through its TrustedServer system, which PwC and Cure53 have audited.

The audit records differ in useful ways. NordVPN’s no-logs claim passed its sixth independent check in December 2025: an ISAE 3000 assurance engagement by Deloitte Lithuania, conducted 10 Nov to 12 Dec 2025, following earlier reviews by PwC (2018, 2020) and Deloitte (2022 through 2024). The catch: the full report is only readable after logging in to a Nord Account. ExpressVPN’s most recent no-logs audit is KPMG’s third engagement, announced 25 Jun 2025 and covering the service as of 28 Feb 2025. Check this before you buy this summer. NordVPN’s 30-day money-back guarantee appears on every plan; the one wrinkle is that App Store purchases refund through Apple.
